A moodboard featuring a subversive twist on a traditional masculine home office space, using paint company Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year 2024: Blue Nova. What are your thoughts on this scheme?

What inspires you? I am forever inspired by colour, whether that be found in nature (the colour combination of a flower, the sunset or the orange and black stripes of a tiger for example), on the exterior architecture of a building or in existing interiors.Sometimes a showcased colour or colour collection by a paint company can also spark a dose of inspiration, and for me Molly Coath’s collaboration with V&Co paints has done that for me. The assortment of heritage colours Molly has put together are stunning, and I just loved the way they were exhibited at the Focus/23 event back in September. The added touches of framed illustrations to match each shade and a postcard to encompass the whole event were so inspired… it’s a collection and concept I wish I had dreamt up myself for sure! Matching colours and concocting stunning colour schemes like Molly has here is something which will play a big part in my own professional practice. You may have seen my previous post which teases some of the branding for my brand new design packages launch coming soon… keep an eye on my upcoming posts and profile for further updates and to find out how important colour will be as part of it 👀

Have a brilliant week everyone! Here I am enjoying some family down time at Bodiam Castle a couple of weekends ago, and I have a busy working week planned this week. This includes plenty of Uni assignment work, a few tasks relating to setting up the Rhidesign Interiors business and four late night shifts on the railway.I might even have time to share a brand new moodboard as well (thank you for all the support on the last few I’ve posted!), so keep your eye on my profile for more interiors schemes 👀

A living room moodboard using Earthborn Paints’ Hopscotch, their Colour Of The Year 2024 🤍 It being me, I couldn’t make an entirely neutral scheme, so I’ve paired the chalky off-white shade with burgundy and sky blue accents (inspired by Paul Moneypenny’s fabulous floral wallpaper featured here). What do you think of this scheme? Leave me a comment below 👇🏻

Love Thyself ❤️Last night I took part in a Valentines-themed collage workshop run by local artist Maja Jones at the Port Hotel on Eastbourne’s seafront. I always enjoy working in my A5 sketchbook at these events, and for this collage I decided to split the double page spread in half; the left hand side is themed on self-love and self-care, whereas the right hand side is dedicated to my and my fiancé’s loving relationship. Maja even printed me out a photo of Charlie and I together on her tiny thermal printer (see my latest reel to watch it print out) to include in the collage… how cute is it?!

A little update on my university assignment work progress:I’ve been working on developing the bubble diagrams from my last update, and translating these into FF&E layout sketches. I’ve made at least one layout per bubble diagram to be perfectly sure which one I’d like to take forward to the final plan. I have also been testing the traffic flow on each layout; it turns out this is a much more challenging task than I thought as there are minimum tolerances to apply between furniture placements to allow optimised movement through a space. Because of this, quite a few of my floorplan solutions won’t be suitable, but I think I’ve now found a dynamic layout which works… I’m looking forward to sharing more progress soon, keep an eye on my profile for more 👀

Let me know👇🏻

After being unable to attend the Surface Design Show last year because of illness, I was so glad to be able to head up to Islington to visit this year’s event at the Business Design Centre. As an interior design student and new interior designer, it was great to stumble upon new brands and find out about surface treatments I didn’t even know were possible. I also enjoyed finding beautiful examples of traditional surfaces, for example tiles, curtain and lampshade fabrics and paint. I came away with discovering some new and exciting brands (to me) and quite a few goodies including samples, brochures and magazines. These photos below show a few of my favourite finds from the day (some I forgot to take photos of and others I filmed for an Instagram reel).Would you use these products in your home or in an interiors scheme you’re putting together? Also did you go to the show this year? Let me know in the comments👇🏻

Here are some photos from another exhibition I found on my visit to the Hastings Contemporary Gallery yesterday, this time by British artist Roland Hicks. This one was a more thought-provoking installation called The Fourth Wall: “an enigmatic playful project that transforms two rooms into an immersive provocative experience in which nothing is certain. The fourth wall refers both to the number of literal walls in each room as well as the theatrical tradition of breaking an illusionary fourth wall between a stage and an audience.”Once again I enjoyed the interiors references in this exhibition, and I do like that shade of green on the door…What are your thoughts on this installation? Let me know in the comments below 👇🏻

Yesterday I visited the Hastings Contemporary Gallery to see Hurvin Anderson’s Salon Paintings exhibition of barbershop paintings. I love that the Jamaican-born artist has selected a form of interiors for the subject matter, and has chosen to revisit it several times over several years. I enjoyed the vibrant colour palettes to reflect the busy days in the lives of barbers, and the amount of detail which can look chaotic close up, but makes perfect organised sense when standing back and looking at the whole scene. As the gallery itself pointed out in it’s write up of the exhibition: “Anderson has returned repeatedly to the subject of the barbershop as a culturally and socially charged space: sites of social gatherings, economic enterprise, community sustenance of difference and shared experience, barbershops are microcosmic melting pots of black British culture. Drawing from still life, photographs and found images, Anderson deconstructs the barbershop interior as an imaginative space in which to explore ideas and experiences of memory and national identities over time and distance”.Overall I found the exhibition really quite inspirational in application of idea and creativity- a series which I wish I had created myself. I have included a few of my preferred pieces from the exhibition here, and my very favourite details are the grid-like tile work above the sink in one painting, and a Red Bull can sitting on the shelf of another. What do you think of these works? Do you like to visit art galleries to be inspired in your own practice?
