Everyone hates throwing out leftovers! It’s such a waste, while we usually go out of our way to find recipes that let us use up leftover stuffing and turkey from our big holiday feasts, eggnog usually gets dumped and forgotten. Let’s just admit it, even though we all love our holiday drinks like eggnog, coquito, and horchata at some point … enough is enough… you can only drink so much of it before it becomes a nose turner.

At first, it may seem like there really isn’t anything you can do with a holiday drink beyond, well drinking it. We are happy to report that there are recipes that reuse and repurpose our most beloved holiday eggnog. In this post, you will find a list of recipes that use eggnog and coquito leftovers in a variety of ways to experience the flavor in differentpresentations, including cupcakes, cookies, pudding, cakes, ice cream, and some others that you will love and will surprise everyone with.

What do you do with too much eggnog?

There are numerous recipes where you can use leftover eggnog and discover new flavors by experimenting with different recipes, but some of the ideas you can make include cookies, cakes, puddings, and different co*cktails.

Is it OK to freeze eggnog?

If you bought a carton of eggnog at the store, it’s best to freeze the eggnog before opening it and before the expiration date on the carton. It will keep in the freezer for six months. If you made homemade eggnog or you have an open store-bought container you can still freeze it, but the shelf-life moves down to around 3 months because it has been exposed to air and possible contaminants.

How long will eggnog keep in the refrigerator?

If refrigerated, store-bought eggnog lasts 5-7 days after opening. Canned eggnog has a shelf life of 4 to 5 months and should be consumed within 5-7 days of opening. Homemade eggnog is only going to last 4 maybe 5 days tops in the fridge. If you are going to freeze it don’t let it go past day 3.

Can you reheat Leftover eggnog?

Yes, you can reheat eggnog, while can be served hot or cold reheating it will kill off any bacteria that may be present. To reheat the eggnog use a saucepan and medium heat, stir constantly until steaming, and then remove from heat.

Why is eggnog only sold during Christmas?

No one buys it! Remember when we mentioned that enough is enough when it comes to eggnog, well, pretty much everyone feels that way. While people seem to enjoy it around the holidays they aren’t in a hurry for it to come back right away so the 10-11 month break is just perfect!

What’s the difference between coquito and eggnog?

The milk! Coquito uses coconut milk, traditionally and eggnog goes full dairy with the use of real eggs! For those of you that aren’t familiar with Coquito, it’s a Puerto Rican drink that is just as delicious (some even argue more so) than eggnog and hits all the same flavor notes.

What’s The Difference Between Horchata And Eggnog?

Again, the milk and usually the alcohol. Horchata is a lot thinner than eggnog and typically uses rice milk or almond and it doesn’t have eggs, which makes it very vegan-friendly! It’s not usually spiked either. It still has those warm spice flavors and really tastes great and making it a good eggnog alternative.
